History T-shirts with real stories behind them
Each shirt in this collection starts with a moment from English and Welsh history. The slogans and images point to real events, people and documents, so whoever wears one usually has a story ready when someone asks about it.
The medieval designs cover the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Magna Carta and the barons’ stand against King John in 1215, and the Black Death, which reached England in the summer of 1348. Crusader and Knights Templar designs sit alongside Welsh dragon shirts, a nod to leaders such as Owain Glyndŵr, who rose against English rule in 1400. If you prefer the darker side of the past, our account of the Pendle witches and the trials of 1612 is a good place to start.
A few favourites come from further afield: Roman mottos, the Spitfire and Churchill’s 1940 speech, and three designs inspired by George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.

What are the T-shirts made of?
Every shirt is a Gildan 5000 Heavy Cotton T-shirt, 180 g/m² (5.3 oz). Solid colours are 100% cotton. Sport Grey is 90% cotton and 10% polyester. The label tears away, so nothing scratches the back of your neck.
How do the sizes fit?
The fit is a classic unisex cut, in sizes from S up to 5XL (the range varies by design). Chest width, measured flat from armpit to armpit, runs from 18 in (45.7 cm) on a Small to 32 in (81.3 cm) on a 5XL. If you are between sizes, go up for a more relaxed fit. How long does delivery take?
Delivery is free worldwide. Each shirt is made to order, and these times include production: UK 4 to 9 working days, US and EU 4 to 10 working days, rest of the world up to 45 days. They are estimates rather than guarantees and can be longer around holidays. You will get tracking details by email when your order ships. Orders sent outside the UK may be subject to customs duties or import taxes, which are the customer’s responsibility. Read the full shipping policy.
Can I return or exchange a shirt?
You can cancel for any reason within 14 days of receiving your shirt. Email sales@historiesandcastles.com with your order number, then send the shirt back unworn and unwashed within 14 days. If you are returning because you changed your mind, you pay the return postage. If you ordered the wrong size, cancel and reorder in the right one. Read the full refund policy.
What if my shirt arrives faulty or damaged?
Contact us as soon as you notice, with photographs if you can. If a shirt is faulty, damaged or not as described, we pay for the return and you can reject it for a full refund within 30 days of delivery. After 30 days, and for up to six months, we will repair or replace it, or refund you if that is not possible. Read the full refund policy.
How should I wash it?
Machine wash cold, at no more than 30°C. Use non-chlorine bleach only if needed, tumble dry on low heat, and do not iron or dry clean.
