The day England changed hands
On 14 October 1066, William, Duke of Normandy, met King Harold Godwinson on a ridge near what is now the town of Battle in East Sussex. Harold had marched his army south after defeating the Norwegian king at Stamford Bridge only weeks earlier. The fighting lasted most of the day, with Norman cavalry and archers wearing down the English shield wall. By dusk, Harold was dead and the battle was lost. William was crowned king at Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day.
The Norman Conquest that followed rebuilt England in stone, with castles, new lords and a new language of power. This Battle of Hastings 1066 t-shirt takes the day and tells it with a grin.
A closer look at the design
A grinning Norman knight on horseback raises his sword, with a red shield and a banner marked with gold lions. Beneath the horse, a fallen defender sprawls beside a round shield. Above them, a scroll sign reads HASTINGS 1066, with the line "Same as it ever was..." underneath. It is a cartoon rather than a reconstruction, drawn for people who like their history with a sense of humour. The artwork is printed across the chest on sport grey.
The shirt itself
The tee is a mid-weight cotton-dominant blend at around 180 gsm, in sport grey. It is heavy enough to hold its shape and keep the print sharp wash after wash, rather than going thin and shapeless by next summer.
Fit and sizing
It has a classic, relaxed fit, in sizes S to 5XL. Check the size guide on this page and compare it with a favourite tee you already own. If you are between sizes, go up one for a roomier fit.
Print and care
The design is printed directly onto the fabric. To keep it looking its best, machine wash cold and turn the shirt inside out.
Made, dispatched, delivered
Each tee is made to order and produced in 1 to 3 days. Delivery is free across the UK. If the size is not right, you have 30 days to return it.
