The road that ended at the walls
In 1095, Pope Urban II called Christendom to march on Jerusalem. Those who answered took the cross as a vow, sewing a cloth cross to their clothes. Three years later, in June 1099, the survivors of the First Crusade reached the city's walls. By 15 July, Jerusalem had fallen.
This Crusader t-shirt captures the moment before the final push: a knight in mail and helm, standing on high ground, with the Holy City laid out below him. It is the view the whole expedition had been walking towards.
A closer look at the design
The knight wears a white surcoat marked with a red cross and carries a matching shield, with his sword at his side. Beside him, a tattered banner bearing the same cross hangs from its staff. Behind him, a large red cross sits inside a gold ring. Ahead lie the walls and rooftops of the city on its hill, with water below. The artwork is printed across the chest on black.
The shirt itself
The tee is 100% cotton at around 180 gsm. That is heavy enough to hold its shape and keep the print sharp wash after wash, rather than going thin and shapeless by next summer.
Fit and sizing
It has a classic, relaxed fit, in sizes S to 5XL. Check the size guide on this page and compare it with a favourite tee you already own. If you are between sizes, go up one for a roomier fit.
Print and care
The design is printed directly onto the fabric. To keep it looking its best, machine wash cold and turn the shirt inside out.
Made, dispatched, delivered
Each tee is made to order and produced in 1 to 3 days. Delivery is free across the UK. If the size is not right, you have 30 days to return it.
Who it is for
This one is for anyone who reads about the Crusades, a gift for a dad or partner who can talk about Jerusalem for an hour, and a good fit for castle visitors and re-enactors. To go further into the history, read our history of the Crusades or try the Crusades study guide.
