King John has a reasonable claim to being the worst king England ever had. He lost Normandy to the French crown, taxed his barons into open rebellion, and in 1215 was forced to seal Magna Carta at Runnymede. He then promptly had it annulled by the Pope, plunging the country into the First Barons' War. He died in 1216 with half his kingdom under foreign occupation, having managed to lose the Crown Jewels in a tidal marsh along the way.

History has not been kind to John, and mostly for good reason. This free illustrated guide covers the key events of his reign, from the murder of his nephew Arthur of Brittany to his catastrophic loss of the Angevin lands in France, the circumstances surrounding Magna Carta, and the political chaos that defined his final years. It is designed for anyone who wants a clear, honest account of one of medieval England's most consequential and damaging kings.

Download it free, print it out, or keep it as a digital reference. It works equally well as a wall poster, a classroom or revision aid, or a starting point for anyone who wants to go deeper into the period.
