Ten blue Nazar beads set in gold tone bezels, linked by an open oval chain with a lobster clasp and adjustable extender. The classic Turkish protection bracelet, worn from the Grand Bazaar to the Greek islands and now well beyond both, because the idea behind it travels.

In Turkey the nazar boncuğu hangs above every door, dangles from rear view mirrors, and is pressed into the hands of newborns. The glass beads — deep cobalt blue with a white and sky blue iris around a dark centre — are made specifically to resemble an eye, because the oldest answer to an envious gaze is to meet it with one of your own.

The belief spans cultures that never shared a language. Ancient Mesopotamia, classical Greece, the Ottoman empire, South Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean all arrived independently at the same thought: that envy has a kind of weight, and wearing a watchful eye deflects it. The Nazar is not a religious symbol. It is a human one.

The bracelet

Ten Nazar beads sit in individual gold tone bezels, each with the full concentric detail of the traditional glass eye: deep blue outer field, bright blue iris, white ring, dark pupil at the centre. They run the full length of the chain, linked by open oval rings with no plain sections between them, so the bracelet reads as a continuous band of eyes rather than a charm piece with a focal point.

The lobster clasp fastens securely and the extender chain gives several centimetres of adjustment, making it comfortable across a range of wrist sizes. Gold tone metal throughout.

A bracelet that arrives as a gift

Few pieces are as immediately understood as a meaningful gift as this one. For anyone connected to Turkish, Greek, or Mediterranean culture, or simply drawn to the symbolism, it needs no explanation. Stack it, wear it alone, or give it without wrapping required.
